Hygiene/Cleanings

Thanks to our comfortable and gentle hygiene appointments, you can enjoy a bright, healthy smile at Signature Smiles of Gluckstadt. It is essential to get your teeth cleaned every six months. The bacteria in your mouth never take a break. They produce acids that eat away tooth enamel and cause your teeth to decay over time. Tooth decay can result in discomfort, infection, and tooth loss if it is not treated.

Periodontal disease, often known as “gum disease,” is an infection of the tissues that support your teeth. Gentle, professional cleanings are a treatment for preventing gum disease because it allows us to clean areas of your mouth that you cannot reach on your own. Additionally, poor brushing and flossing habits allow plaque to build and then harden. Periodontal disease, when it has advanced, can cause pain, bleeding gums, and even tooth or bone loss.

Clear Aligners

Misaligned or crooked teeth can cause discomfort, embarrassment, and even headaches. Before the introduction of clear aligners, traditional metal braces were often the only option for fixing these issues. However, many people, especially adults, have been reluctant to use metal braces because of how they look, and clear aligners have solved this problem.

Clear Aligners are a series of clear, specially designed plastic trays that are frequently distributed in 6- to 8-week intervals. Each tray in the procedure is constructed of thin, transparent plastic and is intended to straighten the teeth by gradually moving them. Clear Aligners work quickly, but the progress is gradual and gentle. The trays are designed to be changed every few weeks while applying light, consistent pressure to the teeth.

The effectiveness of your clear aligner treatment hinges on your ability to wear the aligners for the recommended amount of time (at least 22 hours per day for optimal results) and change out the aligners as instructed. Your trays are detachable and may be taken out for eating and cleaning.

Cosmetic Dentistry

Cosmetic dentistry focuses on the aesthetics of your teeth. Cosmetic dentistry enhances your smile’s natural beauty and boosts confidence. Patients who love their smiles are more likely to share them with others and feel more positive. We want to ensure that you love your smile and that you’re proud to show it off!

Our cosmetic dentistry services are designed to help you achieve the dream smile you’ve always wanted. With a cosmetic dentistry treatment from Signature Smiles of Gluckstadt, your teeth can look as beautiful and healthy as we help them become.

In addition to cosmetic procedures such as teeth whitening, veneers, fillings, and dentures,  Signature Smiles of Gluckstadt also provides bonding as well. Many patients prefer bonding over veneers because it tends to be less expensive and doesn’t always require shaving down your tooth enamel.

Tooth bonding is a cosmetic dental procedure that involves applying a custom-tinted composite resin to your teeth. It can repair a range of common complaints, such as gaps between teeth, cracked teeth, discolored teeth, or irregularly shaped teeth. Dental bonding is fast, painless, and provides natural results. Cosmetic dental bonding can be done entirely in the office and often completed on the same day.

Dental Bridges

Dental bridges fill the space left by one or more missing teeth. A bridge is composed of a false tooth or teeth in the middle, two or more crowns for the teeth on either side of the gap (also known as abutment teeth), and two or more crowns for the teeth on either side of the gap. These artificial teeth, or pontics, may be constructed of porcelain, alloys, gold, or a combination of these materials. Dental bridges are held up by implants or healthy teeth.

Dental bridge advantages include:

  • Bringing back a beautiful smile.
  • Restoring the ability to chew and speak normally.
  • Maintaining the natural contours of your face.
  • Properly distributing the forces in your bite.
  • Preventing the location of the remaining teeth from shifting.

Children's Dentistry

We understand that positive first experiences at the dentist can mean a lifetime of healthy smiles. The goal at Signature Smiles of Gluckstadt is to help all children feel good about visiting the dentist, educate kids and their parents on caring for their teeth, and help them leave our office with a smile. We focus on the prevention, early detection, and treatment of common early dental diseases. We work to keep current on the latest advances in dentistry for children, and our services reflect just that.

At Signature Smiles of Gluckstadt, we want every child we treat to have a positive experience at the dentist. You can be sure your child will leave our office feeling cared for.

Fillings

Dental fillings are the most common reason for adults to visit a dentist. A filling is a simple restoration procedure primarily used to restore cavities or other mild decay or deterioration. We offer composite white fillings which are tooth-colored and appear more natural for teeth that are visible and easier for others to see or notice.

Cavity and tooth fillings are required because of the deterioration that leaves holes in the tooth due to tooth decay. If cavities are left unchecked, the decay will continue to spread and damage the tooth. Dentists will clean away the decay inside the cavity to prevent further damage. This will not fix the damage that has already been created by the cavity, so a filling is necessary. The filling is used to replace the part of the tooth that is missing or destroyed by tooth decay. The dentist molds the filling to match the shape of the surrounding tooth, which restores the strength and integrity of the tooth and prevents further decay from happening.

Nitrous Oxide

Nitrous Oxide, known as laughing gas, is the most common form of sedation used during dental procedures. Dentists choose nitrous oxide because it is a safe and effective method for sedation. The laughing gas works quickly to relax patients, and the effects wear off quickly. This allows you to be able to drive home after the procedure. Nitrous Oxide helps reduce anxiety and gives a general feeling of calmness. We customize each case individually and will discuss sedation only if necessary.

Sealants

Dental sealants work to prevent cavities by sealing pits and fissures that naturally occur in molars. Sealants “seal off” the pit and fissure of your molars to prevent food and plaque from collecting and forming cavities.
Think of a tooth’s top (chewing) surface as a mountain with many grooves. Food gets caught in those grooves. Although daily brushing is essential, applying a dental sealant will enhance the ability to keep those hard-to-reach areas clean.

TMJ/ Occlusal Guard

Your temporomandibular joint (TMJ) connects your jaw to the rest of your skull. This joint can often be the source of jaw pain or headaches due to injury, arthritis, or clenching and tooth grinding, called bruxism. Often, the first and most conservative approach may be the introduction of an occlusal guard.

An occlusal guard is a plastic appliance that protects your teeth from night grinding and aligns your jaw, helping to relax your facial muscles. Relief of symptoms will depend on the severity and causes of your TMJ. An occlusal guard can help stop clenching and grinding when you wear it, helping to alleviate symptoms caused by bruxism.

Our office takes measurements to get the perfect fit for the custom guard. These appliances should be fitted by dentists like Dr. Patel, who is specially trained in their use.

Root Canals

When faced with cavities, the primary goal at Signature Smiles of Gluckstadt is to “save your natural tooth” whenever possible. One of the tools we use to avoid extraction is endodontic therapy, most commonly known as a “root canal.” When the inside of a tooth becomes infected, it will eventually abscess or need extraction if not treated with a root canal. When appropriate, a root canal can help you keep your tooth and prevent painful and dangerous oral infections.

Here are a few symptoms that mean you might need a root canal:

  • Severe pain while chewing or biting
  • Pimples on the gums
  • A chipped or cracked tooth
  • Lingering sensitivity to hot or cold
  • Swollen or tender gums

If you are in pain and think it might be an infected or abscessed tooth, don’t hesitate to contact our office today so we can provide the relief and treatment you need!

Extractions

At Signature Smiles of Gluckstadt, we make every effort to help you maintain your natural smile whenever possible. However, certain circumstances can, unfortunately, result in the need for tooth extraction.

Dental extractions may be necessary due to severe tooth decay, infections, or crowding. One or two teeth may need to be extracted in order to make way for the other teeth as they move into position for those who obtain braces. Additionally, compromised teeth may need to be removed in order to maintain oral health.

A tooth extraction is a relatively rapid outpatient surgery carried out by a dentist or oral surgeon under local, general, intravenous, or a combination of anesthetics. An easy extraction is the removal of teeth that are visible. Broken, subsurface, or impacted teeth call for a more extensive surgery.
